Is there an agency to report adult abuse? Any adult with concerns about neglect, abuse, or exploitation, can report their problems to Adult Protective Services (APS). This agency is strictly for older adults (60 years and older) or dependent adults (18-59 who are disabled). People can also report to APS if adults look like they can not adequately care for themselves. Elder abuse is a growing crime because they are vulnerable. The State of California developed APS to protect these people. Each County in California has agencies to investigate reports of abuse of elders and dependent adults who live in private homes, apartments, hotels, or hospitals. APS staff also provides information and referral to other agencies. It educates the public about reporting requirements and responsibilities under the Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Reporting laws. APS is available to any person regarding income.
