- Physically reside in the United States.
- Must be a California resident
- Must have a Medi-Cal eligibility determination
- Must live at home or a residence (this does not include an acute care hospital, long-term care facilities and licensed community care facilities)
- Must submit and complete Health Care Certification form
The types of services IHSS will authorize are:
- Housecleaning
- Meal preparation
- Laundry
- Grocery shopping
- Personal Care Services (such as bowel and bladder care, bathing, grooming and paramedical services)
- Accompaniment to medical appointments
- Protective supervision for the mentally impaired
A county Social Worker will interview an applicant at their home to determine their eligibility and need for this program. If they approve a person for their program, the applicant must hire an individual provider to perform the authorized services. The respective provider is considered an employee. Therefore, the applicant is responsible for hiring, training, supervising, and firing the personal provider. If the county has contract service providers or homemaker employees, you may receive services from them.
To apply for IHSS, complete an application and submit it to your county IHSS Office.
