Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired is a non-profit organization. Their mission is “Founded in 1902, promotes the independence, equality, and self-reliance of people who are blind or have low vision.”
Being blind or having low visibility varies since only a relatively small percentage have no light perception, while most have some sight.
Lighthouse informs the public. They also educate people diagnosed as blind or visually impaired and provide resources. The information can be beneficial for those who don’t have prior familiarity with the experience of blindness. Their goal for individuals with blindness or low visibility is to give them the confidence and independence to live their life. Lighthouse works with children and adults.
